Mount Pleasant, SC--- Russell "Russ" Tiller has received the inaugrual Mary Frances Bendure Award for Service
from the congregration of Point Hope United Methodist Church. This award, which will be given annually, is
named in honor of church member Fran Bendure.
Bendure was one of the first members of Point Hope when
the church formed in 2003 and was influential in establishing the music program. She continues to serve the
church as the pianist and is instrumental in helping coordinate the worship service. Her service and
dedication to the church inspired Point Hope's Rev. Joe Cate to name the award in her honor.
"In every organization, there are people that you simply cannot live without. Fran Bendure and Russ Tiller
are both tremendous examples of service for our church. It is because of their dedication and committment
that we are able to serve the spirital needs of our congregration, as well as our community,"
says Cate.
Tiller is also an original member of Point Hope. In his role as finance chair, Russ provides financial
leadership to the church and he also plays a vital role in the mission work of the church including helping with home improvement
projects for the elderly and needy. Tiller is also a member of the Point Hope choir.
The only Methodist church in the northern Mount Pleasant area, Point Hope offers a
traditional worship service on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. Additionally, Sunday school,
child care and children services are available to all members and guests.
Point Hope currently owns seven acres of land in the Park West community and recently
finalized architectural plans for the first of several buildings planned for the land.
Until the sanctuary is built, services are held at 3404 Turgot Lane in Mount Pleasant.
