Being an acolyte is one way children are part of worship at Point Hope.

Being an acolyte is great way for children to participate in worship at Point Hope UMC.  The acolyte plays a special role in worship each Sunday.  The acolyte does more than just light the candles at the alter, rather he/she is bringing honor to  God and symbolically bringing the light of Christ’s spirit into the worship service of Point Hope.  Acolytes are usually between the ages of 7 and 12 years old.

Recommendations for Acolytes

  • On the mornings that you are scheduled to serve as an acolyte, be sure to arrive no later than 15 minutes before worship begins (10:15 a.m.).
  • Select an acolyte rob that fits. It should be ankle length.
  • Select a cross necklace.
  • If you are unable to serve as an acolyte, try to coordinate a replacement or let the volunteer coordinator know of your change in schedule.
