Being an acolyte is one way children are part of worship at Point Hope.

Being an acolyte is an honor. It’s an extremely important part of the order of worship and a wonderful way for children to become actively involved in the church. When you are an acolyte, you are doing more than just lighting the candles at the alter. You are honoring God and symbolically bringing the light of Christ’s spirit into the worship service. Acolytes are usually between the ages of 7 and 12 years old.

Recommendations for Acolytes

  • On the mornings that you are scheduled to serve as an acolyte, be sure to arrive no later than 15 minutes before worship begins (10:15 a.m.).
  • Select an acolyte rob that fits. It should be ankle length.
  • Select a cross necklace.
  • If you are unable to serve as an acolyte, be sure to coordinate a replacement.
