Rev. Elizabeth Sullivan

Pastor

Pastor Sullivan is a native of South Carolina. She grew up in Aiken, South Carolina and attended UNC School for the Arts where she received a bachelor’s degree in music. She obtained her master’s degree in education from The University of Charleston. Elizabeth received a call to full-time ministry while she traveled around the country with her husband, Col. Robert Sullivan, who served as an orthopedic surgeon in the United States Air Force. She attended Duke Divinity, Denver Seminary, Fuller Theological Seminary. and graduated with her master’s degree in divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary.

Derek Street

Director of Worship

Derek has served in a music ministry role for almost 19 years with 10 of those years at Point Hope Church! He has a music education degree from Western Carolina University, and he taught music in public schools for 13 years. He also teaches private music lessons. 

He loves his family: wife, Nikki, four adult boys Phoenix (wife Makenzie), Kari, Isaac (wife Devin), and Gavin. They are looking forward to welcoming their first grandchild into the world next spring.  

Most of all, he loves serving God, and he has enrolled into Asbury Theological Seminary this fall.

 

ELIZA TURNER

Middle & High School Student Ministry

Eliza has been a part of the Point Hope team since 2019 leading in worship with her parents, Les and Laura, and sister Lindy. She started singing in church when she was 14 years old and has been doing it ever since. Eliza recently graduated from Coastal Carolina University with a B.F.A. in Physical Theatre. She led a women’s ministry at Coastal called Delight where her faith with the Lord was extremely deepened. She has always had a passion for serving Jesus with her voice, but recently has felt called to also lead kids in their walk with Christ. Eliza is so excited to begin leading the student ministry and cannot wait to learn so much from the students!

Megan Stevens

Communications Director & Asst. to the Pastor

Megan was raised in the Methodist church and is passionate about promoting God’s love and Point Hope Church’s mission to the community. Before serving at Point Hope, she spent 11 years working in public relations within the nonprofit sector. She has a journalism degree from Marshall University and loves to spend time with her family.

Shannon Hellwig

Business Manager & Director of Kid’s Ministry

Shannon is originally from New Jersey and moved to Mount Pleasant with her husband and three daughters late in 2017. She has a degree in sociology and criminal justice from Montclair State University. Prior to moving, she had worked as a bookkeeper for a nonprofit organization. She is passionate about serving God and her Point Hope community.

 

CHERYL MCCOY

Nursery Coordinator

Cheryl works as the Nursery Coordinator at Point Hope and also serves as the Hospitality Leader organizing the "HUG Team" which consists of the important welcoming roles of host, greeter and usher for two services each Sunday. Cheryl says that when she attended the first service at Point Hope, she was invited to stay for lunch and knew she had found a church home. Her granddaughter, Molly, now 13, has been her "church buddy" since she was 2 years-old. 

 

Laura Turner

Accompanist

Laura and her family have been members at Point Hope since 2019. She received her B.F.A. in Dramatic Writing and an M.F.A. in composition for Musical Theater concurrently from New York University. Since 1994, she has been Associate Professor of Theatre at the College of Charleston and is Director/Music Director of countless musicals at the Musical Theatre Center (MTC). She also co-created the “We the People Summer Experience” which brings together MTC middle and high school students with students from NYC to build bridges across racial divides using immersive history and theatre experiences.

 

Les Turner

Counselor

Les was called into student ministry during seminary, but after his mother’s death in a car accident in 1991, he has moved deeper into the counseling field. His focus is on men’s issues and marriage improvement. He is also currently a counselor with the Charleston County School District. Les received a calling to preach the Gospel in 2015 and fills in several times a year at Point Hope giving guest sermons. He and his wife, Laura, and their two daughters have been serving together in ministry for many years.
